A wire drawing machine is a machine that produces a longer length of metal wire.  It is used in many types of different industries including electrical wiring, springs, paper clips, spokes for wheels, and stringed musical instruments.wire drawing machine

It's fairly simple in how it works.  A metal wire is drawn through a die.  First the tip of a wire is shrunk by hammering, or filing so that it will fit through the die.  The volume remains the same, but the length is increased.  Check out the image to the left.

This is a very common practice in manufacturing as you can imagine.  A wire drawing machine can produce some extremely tensile strengths in metals after they are drawn through.  I'm sure most people always wondered how the paper clips were made, and the spokes on wheels were made.  Now you know.  It's used for almost anything you can imagine that needs wires, and they're even used to produce inter-woven cables for conducting electricity.

I've actually been to a factory that had more then one large wire drawing machine.  In fact, they were all continuous wire drawing machines, and they were used for heavy manufacturing for industrial cables for construction.  I'm talking about a few dozen different machines, and all wire drawing machineoperated by workers.  There are also hand-held wire drawing machines that people use in their home.  The machines change in scale quite a bit.

Good luck finding the wire drawing machine that you're looking for.  The really large machines aren't so cheap.  I know a lot of contractors and electricians who use a wire drawing machine when they go to work on homes.  It can help them recycle old wire, and save a lot of money.  It's used quite a bit, and you would probably be surprised to see how many of these you can run into.

The above photograph shows you what an industrial wire drawing machine may look like.  As you can tell, it is a very large machine with a lot of mechanical parts.  It's pretty simple to use too, and it's more of a mechanical machine and doesn't have an engine to run on it's own.  It isn't recommended for large outputs, but for shorter projects that a company may need it for.  I remember seeing one at a company I used to work at, and I always wondered what it was for.  I didn't see people using it very often.
