Assistance for Single Mothers

Whatever the circumstances surrounding becoming a single mother, the task of raising children on your own and supporting them financially is daunting and very overwhelming.  You cannot give up.  Your success as a strong, positive, and financially independent woman will determine the future of your child.  Now while you may not be financially independent now, the goal is to get some help now so that you can show your children that you can do it.  They will get the message loud and clear, and you will be a positive role model for your children.

We will tackle the issues facing single mothers on this website and provide you with some resources to help you so that you can better help your family. What makes it so difficult as a single parent is that you face a dilemma:  the more money you earn, the less help you get, so it seems as if you are not being rewarded for working hard and trying to improve the life of your family.  The government will assist you financially if you qualify, but if you do not, there are other sources that you may want to consider.  Non-profit organizations such as The United Way, The Salvation Army, Goodwill, and The American Red Cross sometimes assist with utility bills.

Daycare:  A single parent needs to find employment to financially support their family.  Daycare assistance may be needed in order to work.  There are single parenting grants available that offer low cost or free daycare assistance throught the Head Start program.    This program offers parents of children in kindergarten and preschool assistance with finding daycare for their children.  Your eligibility for daycare is based on your household income.  If you do not qualify for government assistance of for Head Start, you may want to look into your local church as a support system.  If you are a member of the church, the church may decide to waive the cost of their preschool on a need base.  Do not be afraid to ask for help.  There are programs available to help you.  Remember that you are doing the best you can and that there are good people around who want to help you.
